Cisco announces a new software licensing model

Enterprise Agreement is based on a three or five year contract that allows you to combine suites in perpetual license format, Software as Service or subscription.

Cisco has just announced the availability of a new licensing agreement for software products and services, both in premise format and in the cloud or in hybrid environments. This new model is based on a three or five year contract and software suites that can be combined include collaboration, infrastructure or security solutions. Although the company has not revealed if the company's partners will be able to market the software with this new licensing model, they offer the possibility of accessing a document with detailed information on this new type of contract.

As a novelty, this new model offers a provisioning formula different from the traditional one because it includes 20% software and extra software service support, which customers can use in case of unexpected growth without the need for additional purchases. Mark Hill, vice president of Digitization at Cisco ensures that this model offers interesting advantages to organizations: "As organizations seek to create new business models and generate new revenue sources, they need a simple and flexible model to manage their software investments.

They want implementations on-premise, in the cloud or in hybrid environments, and without exceeding the term or the budget. Cisco Enterprise Agreement provides this simple and flexible way to access Cisco technology, all through a single agreement for companies of any size and sector. " According to sources from the company, the traditional billing used by most software providers is based on an adjustment model or "true up", which consists of a periodic review of the use of the software by the client and a retroactive charge for the excess of use. The provision proposed by Cisco EA is a "true forward" model: customers who exceed the 20 percent margin are not billed retroactively due to the overuse of the contract, but their contract is reviewed at the beginning of their next period billing.

The Cisco Enterprise Agreement includes product suites and software support services for Collaboration, Cisco One for Infrastructure, and Security. Customers can choose a single suite or any combination of suites, and obtain a single contract for all products and services, including:

Collaboration: Cisco Spark Flex Plan, Cisco Unified Communications Suite, Cisco Meeting Server add-on Suite or Cisco WebEx On-Premises Suite, among others.

Infrastructure: infrastructure and data center technologies offered through the Cisco ONE software suites: Switching, Wireless, WAN, Data Center Networking, Data Center Cloud and Computing.

Security: Email Security Suite, Cloud and Web Security Suite, Policy and Visibility Suite, and Security Essentials Suite.

Cisco EA also provides flexibility, allowing customers to deploy their software in the way that best suits their needs - whether in their offices (on-premise), in the Cloud or through a mixed model. Similarly, customers can add software suites to their Cisco EA contract as needed, and transfer licenses from their existing hardware to new hardware. Cisco customers with active Software Support Services (SWSS, Software Support Services) are provided with new features that Cisco releases for the suite throughout the contract period. In addition, to provide customers with full visibility, Cisco EA includes access to an online portal where they can see the software they have purchased, implemented or awaiting renewal.
