The Cloud Market in Peru would move almost US $ 90 million

The advance of technology brought with it the development of new concepts such as The Cloud or cloud computing, a virtual space in which one can place and dispose a large amount of data, and which has generated a demand for new services and the appearance of new companies like the Spanish Gigas.

"We assembled the company in 2011 and saw that there was a gap in the market and an unmet demand, during 2012 we were very focused on Spain, growing very well and testing technology, so the next step was international expansion" , explained Diego Cabezudo, CEO and founder of Gigas.

In 2013, the company decided to make the leap to Latin America, since it considered that it could contribute more for language issues, cultural affinity and because there were no other major competitors.

In addition, Gigas is currently the official provider of cloud computing services of the European Commission and all its agencies, surpassing companies such as Microsoft or Amazon.

The company arrived in Peru in 2014 and to date it already has offices in Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Panama, although its clients extend to other countries in the region.

"Already the international part represents half of our turnover, which in 2016 was 5.7 million euros or US $ 6.5 million, with which our experience has been very satisfactory," he told Gestion.pe.

For 2017, the Spanish firm expects to invoice 7.3 million euros, which would be equivalent to more than US $ 8 million.

Peruvian reality Although Cabezudo acknowledged that the company is happy with the results obtained in the region, Peru has seen many notable changes compared to the market it saw in 2014.

"In 2014 we had to evangelize, we had to convince companies that they had to take the step to The Cloud but that has changed and customers are very clear that they want to make that leap to The Cloud," he noted.

He added that they are seeing very important growths in the The Cloud market in Peru, although it is still an incipient or relatively small market.

"We estimate that in 2016 it had a size of US $ 60 million and I believe that next year (2017) will be close to US $ 90 million, that is 50% growth, then it is growing well ", he claimed.

He said the company is growing along with the Peruvian market and is attracting new customers, which to date amount to just over 100 in Peru.

"It is an important number because we are going to business customers, especially medium and large companies," he added.

What is included in the The Cloud market? The executive explained that it includes two major areas such as infrastructure, such as data centers, and software such as Software as a Service (SaaS).

He recalled that the use of The Cloud allows a company to no longer have to invest in the installation of servers in their offices and have to invest in their maintenance or risk that they become obsolete and damaged.

When asked about The Cloud security levels, he responded that although cyber attacks become more sophisticated and intensive, the use of cloud computing is much safer than having their data stored in the offices.

"The perception of companies has changed drastically and when we launched the service at the end of 2011 or in 2012, companies did not want to get their data out of their offices for fear of privacy and security. problem or barrier to entry to a sales argument, "he said.
